My Christening

Mum & Dad decided they should get me christened a bit earlier than they had planned. So, when I was 5 days old, on Sunday 17th August, I persuaded Dad to put a jacket & tie on, and lots of people turned up at the SCBU to see me. I wore my best clothes too, and asked the nurses to unplug me from all the machines for a little while. They even moved all the other special babies & their incubators to a different room.  The chaplain, Paul, spoke some very nice words & we all said prayers. My Godfather, Iain, and his wife Soraya, had come all the way from France, and I wore a shawl given to me by 1 of my godmothers, Kamal. I was holding a special gold chain sent from Tanzania by my great-grandmother, and Peter Rabbit kept an eye out to make sure I behaved. Mum's sisters and their families came from Milton Keynes, and the room was full of people. Steve's uncle Ian was in the same hospital after a bad accident, and it was his first time out in a wheelchair. I told Mum & Dad that I'd try not to cry as long as they didn't, and I was very good, even when Paul poured water on my head.
